Get Ready to Wed at Wellesley

A current Wellesley Senior sent this link our way:

Check out this spot-on post from the amazing shainareads, in which she transforms a ridiculous advertisement posted on Community by AVI Fresh (our current dining service company) into something so much more beautiful.

I’ve certainly considered Swelles in my top 5 most likely wedding venus. (And I know of at least one WU contributor who tied the knot on campus.) I might consider stopping by the College Club to see what AVI has to offer — or at least to tell them they need to rethink their marketing.

One of my favorite parts of my jobs is the opportunity to meet up with long lost friends in far off places. Or just rarely seen friends in a burrough of NYC. Sometimes for manis.
I’ve been through a few different colors since this meet-up in Manhattan, but I agree with Lucie. It’s a great bonding activity.

nailsandpolish:

I don’t usually get my nails done professionally for the following reasons. 1. I do it basically just as well myself. 2. Since I work at a cafe, my polish always chips really quickly. 3. I just enjoy the act of painting my nails - its a nice time for reflection and relaxation. 4. I could spend the same amount of money on at least 30 cans of beer. 5. I can use as many colors and do as many designs as I want, and not only do I not have to pay for each one but also people don’t think I’m weird.
But, getting manicures can be a nice bonding activity and a nice break from the workday. And those nail technicians do make my nails look pretty good. So when a friend invited me to go with her to the salon on our lunch break and another friend wanted to meet up, I said yes.
So cuticles were trimmed (I don’t do that at home so that was good) and nails were shaped (I do that at home), the painting happened and my nails look awesome. A funny thing about me is that I’m always attracted to colors I already have (this is why I have four different purple glitters). When I go to nail salons I get excited because there are so many colors to choose from, but I can assure you that I own identical shades to the ones I chose today. They are both from OPI, and I didn’t check to see what they were called but the blue glitter is from the Katy Perry collection.
What I can’t figure out is why professional manicures always last longer than the ones I do myself, even though i use the exact same top coat. Anyway, my nails look really good. And my friends’ nails look good too.

I’ve been dreaming of a small space with busy wall paper. This. Is. It.

My goodness, I really want this, but it would bother me that the mirror is covering up all of Asia.  I would have altered the paper so that the mirror was over the Atlantic Ocean.

When I went in search of gold paint, canvasses were on sale. Obviously that meant we needed a series of bedroom art. More bluey-green and gold, this one is perhaps waiting for a little red boat, but for now it’s just a peaceful blur.

What started as the clever facade for a hideously hard to cover bedroom fuse box just got a face lift. A few months ago I found a canvas just the right size and swiped on a bit of blue and green acrylic. Sort of deep-blue-sea, with a sponge craft brush. It was fine. Then we bought curtains, and it just wasn’t good enough anymore. Alison suggested an homage to Jackson Pollock. I may have gotten a little bit of gold paint on my face, but it was worth it.

Once we recognize what it is we are feeling, once we recognize we can feel deeply, love deeply, can feel joy, then we will demand that all parts of our lives produce that kind of joy.

It happens when a father realizes he doesn’t just love his daughter, but also her wife. It happens when a soldier tells his unit that he’s gay, and they tell him they knew it all along and they didn’t care, because he was the toughest guy in the unit. It happens when a video sparks a movement to let every single young person know they’re not alone, and things will get better. It happens when people look past their ultimately minor differences to see themselves in the hopes and struggles of their fellow human beings. That’s where change is happening.

I’m really proud to be alive during all of this.
